Kara Cobb Johnson - Artist

My practice rejects offering my experiences as storytelling in a traditional way. I align what I seek with artists like Robert Irwin, Hilma Af Klint, Eva Hesse. Coming of age in the 90’s-grunge is what I reflect. I inherently seek authenticity and question anything easily consumed. Therefore, my work leaves space: it is decidedly unfinished. People who understand my work understand that they are welcomed to lose themselves in what each work is. People who visit my studio say it looks like a music video. I like that. Welcomed to recognize edges, follow color and shape in a formal way, to discover emotion and expression through form. To express freely in space. I am not as interested in excavating the past and future of each material to make sense of a seemingly endless overlapping of want desire and need, rather, I offer a ritual of care to humble materials: a regard. I challenge the idea of completion with sheer effort and suggest value is fortified by boundless creativity.
