Where a knot begins and ends
www.chicagogallerynews.com/events/new-e…
This group exhibition considers the ways artists engage our complicated relationship to time, history, and archives. The phrase “where a knot begins and ends” conveys the challenges faced by the exhibiting artists who represent the 2024 cohort of New Edition, a two-part class developed by the Art Center for artists to learn and make work in a medium that is new to their practice. Curated by Program Facilitator, Jeff Robinson, the exhibition features the work of Alexandra Antoine, Dawn Brennan, Teresita Carson Valdez, Kittisak (Wa) Chontong, Mary Farmilant, Tanya Gill, Malika Jackson, Kara Cobb Johnson, Caitlin Ryan, and Molly Roth Scranton, each of whom present work in their characteristic medium alongside new artwork made during the 10-week program.

What is Space? What is Form?
I use my piece entitled, Articulation of Form: PrismaGrid Sketches, to address these questions raised within the book entitled “System and Dialectics of Art” written by John Graham. This exhibition is curated by Rachel Wakeman and will be on view at Madron Gallery of American Art in March 4-June 14, 2024.

ELEMENTAL IMPACT
Group Show, CSI
(Kara Cobb Johnson will be showing “Purse”)
The Chase Gallery
November 17, 2023 to January 13, 2024Elemental Impact takes interest in the parts that make up the whole, and how a single element can impact the world at large. Much like a single choice in material or form can change an entire piece, each of the sculptural works in this collective by 34 artists, change and impact the whole through their proximity.
Bold material choices and a unique presence are what unite the works in this exhibition. They balance the ability to stand on their own while also engaging with the work and environment around them in a way that fundamentally changes the experience of the space. Stories are woven through their proximal relationship, changing slightly each way you approach and move through the space; delighting in the ambiguity of what is fundamental, and what is interpreted.
This exhibition is curated by K.R. Fowler and is in partnership with Chicago Sculpture International.

EXPO Chicago 2023: After Hours
2 projects will be on view for the April 14, 6-9pm open house.
First, a series of bronze sculptures by local Chicago artist, Micki LeMieux, will be shown for Falcon Gallery entitled “I find me in the strangest places”.
Second, in response to the lived experience of climate change and plastic pollution, I will show a self made series of installation modules inspired by “cloud-gazing”. Using gifted photographic backdrops (from Clark Elithorp of Space 900 in Evanston) hazard tape, fencing, transparent colored vinyl, boxes, industrial and warehouse lights I attempt to coalesce visual peace. Guests will also be able to take a sneak peek at a garment I am working on created from a family of 5’s two months collected plastic trash from food waste. Yes, this is mostly my families chip and bread bags, created as my submission to Triveni Institute’s “Trashion Revolution: Be the Light” fashion show in May 2023 at the Fair Trade Museum in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.
Limited viewing available, please contact me if you are planning to attend.

Solo Exhibition: Mama's Hand
Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is pleased to present a solo exhibition of installation works by Kara Cobb Johnson. The exhibition Mama’s Hand activates the expansive industrial co-working spaces with playful visual fields of airy watercolor pyramids, expanded disc landscapes, and pastel daylight window arrows. Kara uses collaboratively folded paper airplanes, hand-cut transparent vinyl, and inkjet watercolor decals alongside source inspiration works that highlight five years of experimental play. Experience new perspectives, enhanced perception, and the possibilities inherent only when creating with ones’ own hands.

The Center Program offers the unique opportunity to develop new work, receive feedback from professionals in the field, and work towards an exhibition to be held in the Art Center's main gallery. Over the course of six months, a supportive peer network, guest artists, gallerists, critics, and professionals push Center Program artists to answer tough questions, evolve their art, and ultimately produce strong, new work to show.
The 2015 Front & Center exhibition is guest curated by Tricia Van Eck.
Prior to starting 6018North, Van Eck was Associate Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art,Chicago (MCA) where for 13 years she organized more than 70 exhibitions and programs, much of which were experimental, audience engaged, performative, or extended the MCA's reach into the community.- See more at: http://www.hydeparkart.org/exhibitions/front-center-2015-center-program-final-exhibition#sthash.tSseGBWE.dpuf
