where a knot begins and ends, New Edition group exhibition at the Kantor Family Gallery at Hyde Park Art Center
This is the main installation work for my contribution to the exhibition "where a knot begins and ends". This work uses sculptural installation to comment on architecture, boundaries, and use of communal space to inspire.
I use drywall shims again to comment on "leveling up" when the material itself is used in its practical manner. I make that use absurd by weaving pop riveted sections through the very trusses of the gallery. The pop-rivets are also a material that holds significance to this work. Women built war machines using pop rivets in America's past, here I offer a poetic and artistic feminine use of the same material.
My intention with this work is to confront the viewer with beautiful new uses possible using feminine power and choice. This work is created with colors inspired by the Papinta dancing video. (this work is currently on view at the Hyde Park Art Center and available for purchase through that space and proceeds will be split to benefit community programming and support my practice in 2025.)
