Notre Dame or Our Lady "Rose Window"
Notre Dame or Our Lady "Rose Window"
ink on paper
72 inch diameter
2024

This is a collage screen print that features the words, "third wave" and "the time to codify Roe is NOW". It is a banner, a flag, a rally cry for our time in the Women's Rights Movement in America. I use the framework of the beautiful and timeless Notre Dame m in Paris midday rose window to introduce troubles women face not unlike the ones shown in Betty Freidan's "Feminine Mystique". Why are these boundaries placed upon women and what choices they can make? This symbol appears as a flower exploding with red petals and repeated roaring big cats along with carnival horns and gavels circling a clockface, all getting caught in the panes of this structure. The colors are inspired by the Papinta dancing video here as well. (this work is currently on view at the Hyde Park Art Center and available for purchase through that space and proceeds will be split to benefit community programming and support my practice in 2025.)
